In a
recent house move I rediscovered a small collection of table linen
made by my Grandmother which have the most beautiful hand
embroidery and crocheted edges. I was so impressed with her work –
the skill and the time involved - and sad to think that it’s now a
‘lost art’. I thought it would be interesting to ‘recycle’ these
beautiful pieces and turn them into lovely things to wear. This
spurred me on to search for edgings, collars, braids, laces,
fabrics, buttons & beads that I could re-use. I find them in
antique shops, at flea markets, at vintage clothes sales and even
at car boot sales! I only use the lace from tablecloths where the
cloth part has been damaged. I couldn’t bear to cut up a perfect
piece. In this way I feel I’m breathing new life into a piece of
history that would otherwise lie unloved in a box somewhere.
I
hope you like the results. I can repeat the styles but the lace
edging or collar will be different on each one, so your chosen
piece will be truly unique.
